Cool Broads never leave home without makeup

Here’s another rule to add to the handbook of the Cool Broad.

This rule is about more than just makeup, however. It’s about presenting yourself in the best light possible. It’s about pride of ownership. It’s about dignity.

Cool Broads take care of what they’ve got. They don’t drive around in a car with 23 dings on the hood from the last hail storm (not for long, anyway) and they don’t leave that unhinged shutter on their house hanging askew (unless it’s Halloween). They take care of themselves and take care of their things and always put their best foot forward.

Now, to be clear…Cool Broads do not have to be perfect. Nobody is. Not even that gal that lives down the street that has an ivy-league MBA, a high-powered job, a beautiful house, smart kids and an adorable husband. Cool Broads don’t need to pretend they’re perfect because they aren’t afraid of imperfection. They do, however, always project an air of pride in themselves.

Regarding makeup…everybody, let me repeat, EVERYBODY benefits from a little makeup. This is really just Cool Broad 101. A little concealer, a coat or two of mascara and a sweep of lip gloss can do wonders, both for your appearance and your self-confidence. Now, I’m not suggesting that when you go to the gym you look as if immediately after your spinning class you’re going to hit the clubs. But you do want to look like you take pride in yourself.

5 minute Makeup application

This article from Real Simple Magazine is short and sweet but surprisingly meaty. It basically lays out a morning makeup routine that can be completed in less than five minutes. The three steps are:

1. Even out the skin
2. Define the eyes
3. Add color

Pretty basic yet incredibly complete. Click here to read the full article.

Love your blog! The name makes me giggle, as I’ve heard my 76 year old grandpa say “tough old broad” a few times. Hehe! Great article…the 3 steps are great!

Haha, this is a hard one for me. I never learned to apply makeup properly, have absolutely NO idea who to ask, and prefer to appear natural rather than look like a clown.

Also, I dislike having all this crap all over my face that I have to worry about all the time.

But… I would like to look pretty, damn it.

I’m severely torn on this issue.
