This is such a groovy tune from the 70’s and a great song to cap off the summer.
The lyrics tell of a beautiful barmaid named Brandy who serves whiskey and wine to sailors in a busy harbor town. And though the homesick sailors are all taken with the barmaid, and tell her what a good wife she would be, Brandy’s heart belongs to only one man.
Unfortunately, the sailor she loves isn’t willing to leave the his adventurous life on the sea to settle down. Even so, Brandy continues to wear a braided silver chain and locket that he bought for her on one of his trips to Spain. And late at night, she she wanders the deserted streets of town and dreams of her lost love.
Storytelling songs are some of my favorites…and honestly, every time I listen to this one I still have hope that Brandy’s sailor will come around.
And maybe he will.

This song makes me want to marry a sailor…or a fisherman…or an production operator in the oilfields on Alaska’s northern slopes….

I love this song! Always have. Possibly, perhaps, maybe it might be why I married a sailor. But then again, it might have been his swarthy good looks and silver tongue.:)
