Madonna…again?

You know what’s really weird? This is the second post in a row in which I’ve mentioned Madonna, and yet it’s only the second time I’ve mentioned Madonna on this blog EVER! So before any newcomers draw the conclusion that I’m either her biggest fan or her most ardent stalker, please read on.

This is not a political blog. This is a blog about my observations as I grapple with the challenges of carrying myself as a “Cool Broad“. And on occasion, I use celebrities as both good and bad examples of how I believe is the best way to do that.

Yesterday, I made the argument that aging musical artists (like Madonna) who continue to create and perform well into their 50’s, 60’s and beyond are truly inspiring (and very cool). Then Madonna has to go and show her ass…figuratively speaking (which knowing Madonna as we all do, needs to be clarified).

According to the New York Post, during her concert on Saturday, Madonna shouted, “Sarah Palin can’t come to my party. Sarah Palin can’t come to my show. It’s nothing personal.” And then she proceeds to make fun of Todd Palin’s snowmachine hobby.

Now, Madonna’s infraction isn’t that she espoused her political views in a public forum, her misstep was that her comments weren’t constructive or substantive…they were just childish.

She didn’t say, “I don’t agree with Sarah Palin’s views on a woman’s right to choose, or the fact that she doesn’t support gay marriage and I feel strongly about those issues.”

Instead she said, “nanny nanny boo boo stick your head in doo doo.” And that ain’t cool.

It’s been my experience that when someone doesn’t have anything intelligent to say, they say something stupid, or irrelevant. And Madonna certainly did that. But if it’s just that you can’t stand someone…pontificating about it while you’re holding a microphone wouldn’t be my recommedation.

OK. Who’s gonna rip me a new one??

p.s. Oh, one more thing…Cool Broads don’t spread their legs when they’re wearing a leotard in front of thousands of people - I don’t care how much you work out (in my humble opinion).

TCB - you had me laughing so hard at the last statement. I completely agree! Good God!

I also agree with what you said about her “political” statement. It’s my feeling that if celebrities are going to make any statement like the one Madonna made, they should back it up. Especially because the majority of the people they are speaking to are impressionable kids who make judgments based on what their favorite star says and not really knowing why they were said. Should I even bring up Paris Hilton’s “Vote or Die” debacle.
Here’s another example of a celebrity making a statement without really thinking of the ramifications: remember when Sharon Stone called the earthquake in China “karma”. Not cool.

    @MTM

It’s good to hear that I’m not alone in my irritation with celebrities who speak without thinking…or maybe they ARE thinking and there’s just not a lot up there. Thanks for your comment!

It would seem that douchebaggery is at an all time high.

I absolutely agree with you on every point. This kind of stuff helps the dialog continue to slide into an abyss of mud, and it further alienates the two sides of our political mainstream from each other. And your p.s.. yup, I agree with that too.

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge Madonna fan and have been since day 1, but we went to her concert the last time around and she got pretty political. I don’t care! I didn’t pay $300 to hear what she thinks. Yes, that sounds sort of mean, but seriously? There’s a time and place for that. And the MGM Grand in Vegas ain’t it!

Like your blog BTW. It’s my first time here.

I was all sad and at first, thinking that you were remembering my anti-Palin blog, but mine had substance. Although I think I did call her an idiot once. But I did feel irrelevant and immature about it.

Completely agree with ya, TCB. Mouth off if you must, but make it intelligible and backed by some kind of rationale.

But then again, as much as I used to like Madonna, she’s done. Her extended 15 minutes of fame are gone. Her latest CD chocked full of Hip-Hopsters and wannabes just proves that she’s grasping to retain some semblance of relevancy. Sad, really, when she was for so long a trendsetter and now she’s hitched her wagon to Timberlake & Timbaland - guys who wouldn’t exist had she not blazed the trail far ahead of ‘em.

I got to this post from another so I’m rather late with my response…I am totally with you on Madonna and her celebrity kin. Most celebrities have minimal education, an insular perspective, and have been surrounded by adoring fans, sycophants, and calculating Hollywood executives. They then believe that what they say will utterly change the world—when they don’t have the chops to back it up.
Now we learn that Madonna’s second marriage is finished and I am actually mature enough to recognize sorrow for her and her family. So. I’ll let her flash her crotch and just shake my head because that’s all she has left now. Well, that and all her money. But age is catching up to all of us…if we’re lucky.

Agree with the entire blog.. I mean how old is she now? What age do some people mature?
