One of the things I love about Diane Lane is the fact that she’s aging so gracefully. And what I mean by that is she seems comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t feel the need to stretch it, freeze it, and plump it beyond recognition (it has to be said, though, she IS genetically blessed).
And after reading her interview in the October issue of Redbook Magazine, I like her even more.
When asked to reflect on what she’s learned over the years, she responded, “To me, there’s no greater reward than being around people you care about and can be present with. Or to realize I’m the person I’ve always wanted to become — or, should I say, the person I always knew I was.”
When asked to expand on that statement, Diane said, “Oh, I guess it’s that I realize I am as smart as I thought I was. I do have some talent. I really do have conviction. I’m not a bad parent and partner, even if I make a thousand mistakes. Even when things aren’t going exactly where you thought they’d go, you’re getting somewhere just by dedicating yourself to what really matters.”
I’m really inspired by that. Even though nobody’s perfect (and never will be), it’s within every one of us to be the woman we aspire to me. And to come to the realization that you’ve become that woman, mistakes and all…that’s what I strive for every day.
Are you the woman you’ve always wanted to be?

There are no absolutes. By the time you reach the beingness you thought you once wanted, you have hopefully gained in knowledge and understanding as a person, to see that idea you had of the ideal is no longer the ideal and that you could actually be more than that! It’s okay to change your mind and set your sights higher. So the answer to your question is yes and no because my idea of that woman now is euuw! Gross! What a small view point I had!
I have also run into women who actually cannot see this view point and have set their goals so high can’t see it when they have achieved it and had to change the goal because when they got there it didn’t handle everything perfectly so feel they have failed. It is important to realize our accomplishments and at least acknowledge ourself for it before running off to the next challenge don’t you think?

Although I have many, many, (many) flaws - I’m happy with myself. Of course, I always strive to be better, because I think there is always room to grow. But as a whole, I like myself.
As for Diane Lane, LOVE HER!!! Doesn’t she look fab in that dress?
Oh, and I think you look sorta like her. . .

Not yet…we all still have a lot of things to work on….even if we think we don’t.
I will say that I am closer to being the woman I want to be than I was even 1 year ago.

Humm. I’m not sure I’ll ever really know if I’m the woman I want to be. I keep changing the targets. I do know that the older I get, the more I like myself and I also believe that we have to embrace our past experiences in order to like who we are today. I love what she said about being dedicated to what matters. Great question.

I used to be the opposite of the woman I wanted to become. So I changed everything.
I was so glad to have found your cool blog, and even more thrilled to see this post about Diane Lane. Seriously love her.
